The feature most commonly associated with All Bristlenose are the fleshy tentacles found on the head in adult males (The Bristles) females may possess tentacles along the snout margin but they are smaller and they lack tentacles on the head. Males also have evertable cheek odontodes which are less developed or absent in females.
They also lack odontodes along the snout. In comparison with a typical pleco, a bristlenose is typically shorter (15 cm or less), more flattened and fatter with a comparatively wider head. Colouration is typically mottled brown, grey or black. Small white or yellow spots are common.

Customer Rating Ordered 5 of these, received 6! Though one of them was tiny, they all looked healthy & active & have disappeared into my tank, appearing occasionally attached to the glass, filter pipe, driftwood or ornaments. Looking forward to them growing in size.

Customer Rating Got one of these from Live fish a few months ago and they are fantastic! they eat algae so it means i dont have to pay for special fish food for them. all you have to do is provide them with a home and they'll clean your tank plus they grow huge (if you want them to). it's a win win situation. Customer Rating These are by far my favorite fish. Not only are they hardy fish and great workers, once grown they are also quite impressive looking fish. Once at mature age all you need is a piece of PVC piping and mum and dad will start making little babies :) but beware as dad is a very good care taker and they have a very high survival rate so you may end up with 30+ babbies per spawn :) As always fish from live fish arrive happy and healthy. Customer Rating These are amazing to watch grow, they tend to doubble there size in about 2 weeks from this size, we feed ours flakes, bloodworms and an inch slice of zuccini twice a week, we made 2 spikes to hold the zuccini to the bottom, just a piece of flat steel with a 4 inch nail welded to it, but i think stainless steel would be better, we have 10 in each 4 foot tank, they realy help clean the tanks (Posted on 16/07/10)

Provide bristlenose with a cave and as long as you have a male and female it wont be too long before you to are a BNS breeder.
