Known as Aulonocara is a genus of haplochromine cichlids endemic to Lake Malawi in East Africa. All Aulonocara species are all maternal mouth brooders. Particularly in the aquarium hobby, Aulonocara species are also known as peacock cichlids, aulonocaras or simply "peacocks". This genus is strongly sexually dichromic, even by haplochromine standards.
As aquarium fish, they are best kept with other medium sized non-aggressive cichlids from Lake Malawi. Decorate the aquarium with a lot of open space for the Aulonocaras to swim in and a lot of caves where fish can hide, rest or establish territories. Only keep one male unless your aquarium is large enough to support several territories.

Excited!! Happy 3rd time customer!!! Review by Marita
Customer Rating Excellent fish again guys... Bought 5 of these fish, as soon as I released them into the tank their colours came on straight away. They all looked plain when they arrived from the big trip to Nowra, stressful I guess, but were so lively and healthy and such beautiful variations and colour of marbling in each one. :) (Posted on 26/02/13)
