Known as Aulonocara is a genus of haplochromine cichlids endemic to Lake Malawi in East Africa. All Aulonocara species are all maternal mouth brooders. Particularly in the aquarium hobby, Aulonocara species are also known as peacock cichlids, aulonocaras or simply "peacocks". This genus is strongly sexually dichromic, even by haplochromine standards.
As aquarium fish, they are best kept with other medium sized non-aggressive cichlids from Lake Malawi. Decorate the aquarium with a lot of open space for the Aulonocaras to swim in and a lot of caves where fish can hide, rest or establish territories. Only keep one male unless your aquarium is large enough to support several territories.

dont know yet Review by MAI
Customer Rating Received a pair of these today along with other fish, they're just dull silver/grey at the moment while the other two (Fryeri Iceberg Electric Blue 4-5cm) started coloring up within minutes hitting the tank. Won't judge now, but will wait and see how their colors turn out because they already have great shape and fins. (Posted on 10/05/12)

Very nice fish Review by Rod
Customer Rating They arrived fit and healthy and settled in nicely. Non-agressive towards the other cichlids in the tank. The colours are really starting to show. (Posted on 20/04/12)

New favourite. Review by mitchell
Customer Rating Got this guy a few weeks a go and his colour was a bit subdued.
But now he has settled his place amongst the other fish. WOW! This guy is my new favourite he's grown super fast and has developed colours exactly like the picture. (Posted on 20/04/11)
