Long Armed Freshwater Shrimp 5cm

Macrobrachium Australiense
Rating:
96% of 100

The Freshwater Prawn is a fascinating native invertebrate species found in rivers, lakes, and creeks across Australia. Known for their hardy nature and intriguing look, these prawns are ideal for aquarists who want something a little different from the usual shrimp or snails. Whether for a native biotope setup, as an algae grazer, or just for their appearance and activity, Macrobrachium australiense makes a great addition to the right aquarium.

  1. Entertaining addition to the right tank.
    100%
I bought 3 of these over a year ago. Due to various, dumb choices of tanks, I now have one left. He/She is such a character in the community tank of tetras(Lemon, rummy nose, etc , not the tiny ones) and Cory cats, I love to feed the tank and see where this 'shrimp' appears from. It lives over the sponge filter or lords over the massive castle (THAT is a funny look!) I will get more soon. Great purchase from Live Fish.

Really surprised by how bold/trusting my shrimp became after settling in, he often comes to the surface to take food from my hand. Such a cute little guy!
    Arrived in perfect health, thanks

  6. long armed shrimp

i purchased 10 of these but due to the air ports slow delivery only 6 survived the trip. They are very cool and seem to just hover around the tank i have provided them with plenty of java fern , plants and caves with a very fine filtration. This will hopefully encourage them to breed wish me luck! Over all i am happy.

i ordered two of these to clean the tank of scraps and eat the occasional but of algae, but they seem to prefer fish. dont leave them alone with smaller fish. i have fed the small feeder fish and it is great to watch them slowing pick away at it. ALSO they came huge, at about 8-10cm which was surprising but good, great addition keep with larger fish.

grabbed this fella on a whim, been catching fish in rivers and creeks around here and have seen a few but never able to get to them
so figured i get one with another order.
    looks amazing.
fun to watch and loves snails!
i havent put him with fish yet, and worried he will eat some of the smaller gudgeons in the tank...
will wait till they grow up a bit.
    but great shrimp
