The Freshwater Prawn is a fascinating native invertebrate species found in rivers, lakes, and creeks across Australia. Known for their hardy nature and intriguing look, these prawns are ideal for aquarists who want something a little different from the usual shrimp or snails. Whether for a native biotope setup, as an algae grazer, or just for their appearance and activity, Macrobrachium australiense makes a great addition to the right aquarium.

Entertaining addition to the right tank.I bought 3 of these over a year ago. Due to various, dumb choices of tanks, I now have one left. He/She is such a character in the community tank of tetras(Lemon, rummy nose, etc , not the tiny ones) and Cory cats, I love to feed the tank and see where this 'shrimp' appears from. It lives over the sponge filter or lords over the massive castle (THAT is a funny look!) I will get more soon. Great purchase from Live Fish.

long armed shrimpi purchased 10 of these but due to the air ports slow delivery only 6 survived the trip. They are very cool and seem to just hover around the tank i have provided them with plenty of java fern , plants and caves with a very fine filtration. This will hopefully encourage them to breed wish me luck! Over all i am happy.

redhoti ordered two of these to clean the tank of scraps and eat the occasional but of algae, but they seem to prefer fish. dont leave them alone with smaller fish. i have fed the small feeder fish and it is great to watch them slowing pick away at it. ALSO they came huge, at about 8-10cm which was surprising but good, great addition keep with larger fish.
