Rainbow Shark

Rainbow Shark 5cm

Epalzeorhynchos Frenatum
Rating:
92% of 100

A close relative to the monstrous black shark, the rainbow shark poses a far better alternative for aquarists looking to add a contrasting shark-like freshwater fish to their aquarium. The rainbow shark is actually more closely related to goldfish and carp than true sharks however its tall dorsal fin, elongated body, and shark-like tail fin make it bear a close resemblance. When it came to naming the rainbow shark there had to have been a mistake that occurred as rainbow sharks most certainly are not rainbow. They do however have some of the best contrasting colours being a dark black body with hints of navy blue.

My Rainbow sharks mostly keep to themselves and have individual favourite spots to farm algae but one of them is aggressive and seems to live for Hastings bigger fish. He sticks to one and bights it whenever he can. My last deceased fish used to bleed after a day of his nipping. It died of old age I must add.I tried to catch the violent one but it’s been too quick for me so far.

Received my fish and they looked great. Unfortunately one died with in 24 hours of putting into my tank and the other one is very quiet. Not sure why he died as my others are very happy. Not complaining though as it might not be the right tank for them as we have others die of this kind too when we get them.

  6. Showfish!!

Very inquisitive fish that sometimes just lay there and watch me. Very importantly you have to keep 5 or more if you want more than 1 in a tank to have the best chance of them living in relative harmony(as adults).

  7. Very territorial

Had one of these I recently got rid of... Was causing a lot of stress and resulted in 2 of my clown loaches dying. Rainbow shark would chase them every time the loaches came out to feed. Do not go well with loaches or other sharks.

  8. AWESOME

Have a rainbow shark called Turbo, for it's extreme bursts of speed. I also keep him with 5 tiger barbs and 1 neon tetra. He doesn't bother the tetra and actually protects it. He chases the tigers around a lot but never harms them. A very exciting and when well fed, colourful fish. Easy to look after, no stress. A++ :D
