Purple Spotted Gudgeon 5cm

Rating:
83% of 100

The purple-spotted gudgeon makes for an amazing rare, unique, and oddball addition to a native Australian or oddball aquarium. These fish were once declared extinct in the wild but after a small population was rediscovered, they were bred in captivity and now be kept in the home aquarium. The purple-spotted gudgeon remains at a relatively small size compared to other gudgeon species and is fairly easy to care for. They are almost like small predator fish making them a great option for aquarists who have space constraints.

  1. Great personality
    100%
A great fish which I really loved watching. He recognises the owner & is always alert & on the prowl. Its a big monster in 4 inch fish. It killed 15 precious gobies & mollies in my 45 gallon tank. A very intelligent fish with good hunting sense. After all I had to remove him, but still like the fish with a great personalty.

I ordered three purple spotted gudgeons and all arrived happy and healthy. Their shape and colours are amazing. They are a great addition to my native tank, however appropriate tank mates are a must. They have a good appetite and I can see how smaller fish would quickly disappear. Mine are sharing their tank with a large school of rainbows and love a feed of bloodworms.

  5. little snake wolf head fish

i really have grown the love this fish. smart and very aware of what going on out side the tank. kinda looks and acts like a cross between a wolf fish and a snake head, but what i just cant wrap my head around is the size. WTF! a how is all that attitude packed in to such a little fish! boo! this fish should at lest reach the 12 to 24 inch range but sadly no... this is a mistake of the fish god so it cant be a 5 star fish at 6 cm.

I regret buying this fish, he is a preditor to all other fish. It will try to eat anything that is passing by the cave. I think I'll need to remove it before it gets bigger.

Ive got 3 purple spotted gudgeons in my tank 7cm, 8-9cm and a 12-cm the smallest and the largest gudgeons have spawned like 4 times in 4 weeks and the fry are growing up fast. they are very peaceful fish the are only aggressive when breeding. they share my 6 ft tank with a sleepy cod a 3 silver perch 4 Murray river rainbow, 10 kangaroo creek rainbows and various other rainbows.
a must have in any medium fish community tank

  10. Pretty fish but not too tolerant of other fish.

I like mine but he ate 2 rare goby's that were not too much smaller than he is, and my Nigerian Red Krib. I am not sure what to do with this guy. I like him but also would like to have other fish in my tank.
