The Butterfly Fish has to be the mascot of oddball aquarium fish, a close relative of the Arowana, and a species that is better reserved for experienced aquarists, this is a must-have species for aquarists sharing a small and unique species. These fish look more alien than they do fish and only reach a maximum size of 15 cm, making them great fish for smaller aquariums. Their slow and sensitive nature doesn’t make them great for active community tanks but these mini predators would be perfect in a species-only biotope system.

arrived healthy and confidentordered one of these guys and was worried about how it'd handle transit. all its lovely fins were perfectly intact, and it was taking dried worms within hours of being added, as well as confidently cruising around the tank. very happy!

Awesome FishI first got this fish a couple of years ago. Recently it disappeared and so I bought another. This is an amazing fish. It doesn't look like much in photos but in person it has heaps of personality.
From above it looks like a butterfly (hence the name) or possibly like a miniature mythical dragon. Watching it feed is tremendous entertainment. It cruises around the surface of the tank and snaps up food so fast it's gone faster than the speed of light.
Both of mine have loved to inhabit a corner of the tank that is surrounded by java moss attached to a latex background. Giving him a secure place to hang out. My community tank mostly have peaceful fish (discus, columbians, cardinals) with 4 clown loaches that while aggressive are usually out during feeding.
If you want a surprise packet to wow your friends and family, I would definitely recommend this amazing fish.Posted on

tense but not fussyordered 1 for a community tank, usually just sits jus below the water line except when lights out then it starts to wander, very tense and skittish when lights are on but readily eats anything that floats and surprisingly eats small live feeder fish asw well. no regrets, its the only species of its kind. love it to bits, highly recommend
