Peacock Cichlid
Known as Aulonocara is a genus of haplochromine cichlids endemic to Lake Malawi in East Africa. All Aulonocara species are all maternal mouth brooders. Particularly in the aquarium hobby, Aulonocara species are also known as peacock cichlids, aulonocaras or simply "peacocks". This genus is strongly sexually dichromic, even by haplochromine standards.

As aquarium fish, they are best kept with other medium sized non-aggressive cichlids from Lake Malawi. Decorate the aquarium with a lot of open space for the Aulonocaras to swim in and a lot of caves where fish can hide, rest or establish territories. Only keep one male unless your aquarium is large enough to support several territories.

FANTASTIC! Beautiful colour, beautiful healthy fish. We ordered two large peacocks; and within a day of receiving them had ordered another we were so impressed. Because we have a tank that hadn't had new additions for quite a while, we lost one through bullying, but the other two have settled in well - so much so that we now have a brooding female peacock.
