Peacock Cichlid
Known as Aulonocara is a genus of haplochromine cichlids endemic to Lake Malawi in East Africa. All Aulonocara species are all maternal mouth brooders. Particularly in the aquarium hobby, Aulonocara species are also known as peacock cichlids, aulonocaras or simply "peacocks". This genus is strongly sexually dichromic, even by haplochromine standards.
As aquarium fish, they are best kept with other medium sized non-aggressive cichlids from Lake Malawi. Decorate the aquarium with a lot of open space for the Aulonocaras to swim in and a lot of caves where fish can hide, rest or establish territories. Only keep one male unless your aquarium is large enough to support several territories.

Customer Rating These are a great fish. I ordered four of these fish, all were the same size and possibly bigger than 7cm's, they were different colours and there was one male and three females. They arrived in good condition in the middle of winter when it was very cold. Well done Livefish and a great job sending them. (Posted on 25/10/10)
