A yellow-gold strain of the old favourite the Honey Dwarf Gourami, this is an excellent fish for well-planted aquariums, providing a showy display amongst the plants. Very hardy, they are best kept in a small group with similar sized fish such as tetras, they can be shy if kept with much larger tankmates. Maximum size is about 4.5cm.

Gouramis and Anabantids are attractive aquarium fish. Gouramis live for about four years but with proper care can live longer.

Gouramis are peaceful fish that do well in most community aquaria. They require a tank that is 40 litres or larger. They are usually found swimming on the middle to top regions of the aquarium. This is not surprising since the Gourami is a labyrinth fish. That is, Gouramis can breathe oxygen from the air through their Labyrinth (organ) (like the Betta) if necessary. It is important, therefore that the surface of the water be exposed to fresh air. This is usually accomplished by using a hood that allows air ventilation. If you are using good air pumps, this is not always needed, since the air pumps will refresh the air above the water.

The aquarium should be heavily planted and have at least part of the surface covered with floating plants. A darker substrate will help show-off the gourami's colors, and peat filtration is recommended. Gouramis should not be kept with large, aggressive fish, but are compatible with other small, peaceful fish as well as with fellow gouramis. Loud noises often scare them, so the tank should be in a quiet area. Regular water changes are a must.

Gouramis are tolerant of fairly high temperature. Temperatures of 29 ?C are easily tolerated.

Customer Reviews

  1. In surprisingly good health Review by Eddie
    Customer Rating

Certainly no cheaper than from a local fish store, but in much, much better condition. These are touchy fish, but they all arrived safe and sound. It would be nice if the pre-checkout prices on the website included GST (GST is included on invoices only for tax purposes, not because customers actually have to pay it in the technical sense). Also, more detailed product descriptions rather than Google cut-and-pastes would be better. Nonetheless, excellent service and most importantly, excellent quality fish. (Posted on 6/10/11)

  5. Simply Beautiful Review by Shain

These are one of the most graceful fish I have.
They are timid, and lively. Wonderful to watch them interact with each other. They have so much character. A well planted/driftwood tank is a must, and they will appreciate it.
Reccomended for sure. (Posted on 11/03/11)
