The Clown Loach is an omnivorous, scaleless loach, with vibrant body colouring. They are quite active, and will sleep with other clown loaches in any hole or nook it can find.
They will live for several years (and even decades) once established. They are slow growers, but can reach a large size in time (up to 25 cm). However, they are seldom seen at this size. Clown loaches often sleep on their side, which makes them look like they are dead - but don't be alarmed, this is quite normal.
Clown Loaches love to eat snails, and will control any snails that enter your tank through new plants or otherwise.
Clown Loaches make excellent tank mates to a wide variety of other aquarium fish, and their bright colouring and outgoing personalities make them one of the most popular aquarium loaches!

Awesome fish Review by Erick R
Customer Rating These are one of my favorite fish in Aquaria. They are active and friendly fish. As mentioned before they don't like being alone so grab as many as possible. Though they seem slightly suicidal as one jumped out of my tank on the first day in :( Great fish and a great addition to any aquarium. (Posted on 1/11/10)

Wonderful fish Review by adam
Customer Rating I have two of these guys in my tank as i also have rams horn snails for algae growth. With out the clown loaches my tank would be overrun with ramshorn snails, which are prolific breeders. They are quite hardy fish, attractive to look at and very active. I have several small tanks set up with various types of fish, all of them have rams horn snails for algae as well. every now and then i move one of the clown loaches from the large community tank into the smaller tanks, to control the snails. They do a great job, its been quite some time since i have had a population explosion of snails. (Posted on 26/10/10)

Beware as this fish grows large Review by Richard
The clown loach is peaceful and attractive fish and suitable for the larger community tank as it grows to a large size. The juveniles do well in any tank. You have to be careful to keep the filtration going and the water clean. It prefers a neutral acidity but it will slowly adapt to either slightly acid or slightly alkaline water.
When you see them on sale buy a bunch of them Some of them are delicate and won't make it. .but the ones that do make it, will live for many years and will eat just about everything. (Posted on 25/10/10) -

Awesome fish Review by Julie
Customer Rating I bought 2 of these to add to the 2 i already had. The first 2 days they were very quiet (as i thought, with other large fish in the tank) but now they are happily swimming around with the other 2 clicking away with not a care in the world! (Posted on 10/09/10)

What a clown Review by Mark Wright
Customer Rating What a clown this fish is, it's like the court jester of your fish tank, these fish have a personality, a source of constant entertainment. Very happy fish if kept with other loaches. i'm always find mine sleeping upside down or on it's side. Easy to look after fish , happy to be with other smaller fish. These are a great fish (Posted on 18/07/10)

highlight of my tank Review by Ricky Lee
Customer Rating Ordered 4 of these a couple months ago and they are definately the highlight of my tank.
All are doing extremely well but took a while to get acclimitised. One of the four would only eat bloodworms for the first 3 weeks!
They are extremely active fish when small and will constantly be on the look out for food. (Posted on 18/07/10) -
These little guys are fantastic Review by Luke Mole
Customer Rating These little guys are fantastic. I have 21 of them now, and they are by far, my favourite fish in the tank. They're always entertaining - whether they're up at the front of the tank begging for food, or just taking a nap in a log. They originate in rivers, so a powerhead in the tank to proved a current for them to swim against and play in is a great idea.
If you are considering these guys, keep in mind that they are a shoaling fish, so they will be unhappy in smaller groups or by themselves. At a minimum you should get 5, but ideally you should get as many as your tank (and your budget) will allow. If properly cared for, they can grow to over 30cm so they will need to go into a 6 foot tank or bigger eventually. They need swimming space, so even smaller specimins shouldn't be kept in anything smaller than a 4 foot tank. They are also prone to whitespot (ich), so it is a good idea to quarantine them for a few weeks if you're going to be adding them to an established tank. The clowns I've bought from Livefish have always been free of whitespot, but it's better to be safe than sorry.
If you can live with these requirements, the clowns you get will be a very rewarding purchase. They make an excellent addition to many community tanks, and with their goofy antics, they will probably become your favourite fish too. (Posted on 18/07/10) -

I received a very healthy Clown Loach Review by Heidi S
Customer Rating Very pleased with my order. I received a very healthy Clown Loach over a week ago, and is still very active and healthy today. A great additon to aquarium, contantly scouting for food, and a beatiful fish to watch. He's a character when he sleeps as sleeps upside down sometimes, or hidden away in plants appearing as if dead, but once awake is definately fully alert & well. (Posted on 16/07/10)
