Freshwater Shrimp have 10 jointed legs (they are decapods; deca – ten, pod - leg), well-developed swimmerets (like fans under their tail) and a body that is flattened sideways. They are larger than glass shrimp, and can grow up to 10cm in length.
Freshwater Shrimp mainly eat decomposing vegetation, bacteria and particles of algae. They use their first two pairs of legs to grab the food and put it in their mouth.
They are particularly useful in home aquariums because they love to feed on algae, and keep your tank clean. If there is no algae, the shrimp will eat the leftovers of anything that you feed to your other fish.
Please note: Due to quarantine restrictions, this item cannot be shipped to Tasmania.
Average size of shrimp on shipping is 5cm body plus claws. Claw size is dependent on the individual.

redhot Review by Lachlan
Customer Rating i ordered two of these to clean the tank of scraps and eat the occasional but of algae, but they seem to prefer fish. dont leave them alone with smaller fish. i have fed the small feeder fish and it is great to watch them slowing pick away at it. ALSO they came huge, at about 8-10cm which was surprising but good, great addition keep with larger fish. (Posted on 5/05/11)

Customer Rating grabbed this fella on a whim, been catching fish in rivers and creeks around here and have seen a few but never able to get to them
so figured i get one with another order.
looks amazing.
fun to watch and loves snails!
i havent put him with fish yet, and worried he will eat some of the smaller gudgeons in the tank...
will wait till they grow up a bit.

Awesome to watch Review by Shain
Customer Rating Great tank addition, but beware, will snack on any small fish and shrimp you have in your tank. Will even find ways of laying in ambush around places where your fish like to hide. An LED/Air curtain is great to deter this at night as your smaller fish (namely Tetras) can see the shrimp coming. Mine isn't fussy about the light being on-will still venture around the tank picking up scraps, but is more active when the main light goes off. Quite a busy little critter. (Posted on 11/03/11)

will outsmart tetras Review by Lerin
Customer Rating Awesome critters, absolutely fell inlove with them... However will snack on small tetras no worries once the lights are off, and terrorise apistos and rams. A great companion for rainbows and cribs (or other west africans) in my experience. There are few more amazing sights in aquariums than seeing two of these fellows facing off over an algea wafer (Posted on 13/12/10)

Cherbin Review by Jonesy
Customer Rating We have these locally in the NT Rivers, they are cool little critters, I used to be able to hand them pellets and they would take it out of your hand and go hide but in his cave. Fun to watch, however they do like small fish. These guys can grow real large and still look awesome. (Posted on 28/11/10)

Long armed freshwater shrimp Review by adam
Customer Rating These guys are great. Easy to look after, hardy and just plain weird looking with their two long long arms. I bought four to start off with, and they are going great. Only had the tank set up for a month or two and the female is already loaded with eggs.
Little work is needed to keep the tank clean as these guys do most of the work for you. Its hard to find any wasted food in the tank, as they are very thorough little cleaners.
Anyhow, great in a tank on their own, or as cleaners in a community tank. Just make sure the fish are peaceful though, otherwise they will be a tasty snack for the fish, LOL. (Posted on 26/10/10) -
Do not keep with cichilids Review by Sam
Customer Rating Was a awesome addative to the tank whilst he lasted, but being fairly new to fish keeping, the larger members of our tank had gourmet meal as we returned home to his empty shell. (Posted on 26/10/10)

shrimp Review by shrimp
Customer Rating great to watch crawl around and look for scraps , likes green vegies and fish food but loves little fish , very well behaved with the lights on gets very active in the dark (swims around trying to catch fish) a small led night light gives the tetras a chance to see him coming ,can be hard to find sometimes so adds a great new bit interest to the tank (Posted on 12/07/10)
