This is a very attractive tetra, often fully extending their fins in peaceful territorial displays. Males grow to 4.5cm, the females remain slightly smaller.

Tetras are considered easy to keep in a community aquarium of at least 20L, with a pH of 5.07.0 and KH of 1.02.0. However, they will not tolerate dramatic changes to their environment. The Tetra can live 10 years or more with the proper conditions. They tend to be timid and, because of their small size, should not be kept with large or aggressive fish who may bully or simply eat them.

Fish that mix well in an aquarium are other types of tetras, and other community fish that live well in an ideal Tetra water condition. Mid-level feeders, they are best kept in schools of five to eight or more, for the "shoaling" effect when they move around the tank. They shoal naturally in the wild and are thus happier, more brightly coloured, and more active when kept as a shoal as opposed to singly.

Tetras are best kept in a densely planted tank with subdued light and an ideal temperature of 2024?C to resemble their native Amazon environment. Tetras are omnivores and will accept most flake foods, but should also have some small foods such as brine shrimp, daphnia, freeze-dried bloodworms, tubifex, and micro pellet food to supplement their diet.

Nice phantom
Got five of these beauties. One died, poor little bugger. The rest are strong and beautiful. Happy little fellas who are getting along with everyone else in the tank ( neons, golden clouds, rasbs, suckers, Cory's, bettas, bn cat, and glass shrimp). Good community fish and seems to be hardy as well.

Rewarding and underrated
I bought a single one of these as a beginner because the look appealed to me, but as I've become a more seasoned aquarist they have become one of my favourite features of the tank. They are much more active and impressive in a small group and their behaviour and displays are interesting to watch. They can also be active at feeding time when you vary the diet, with fast dashes to their food and taking flakes from the surface with a lot of vigour! Recommended for any community or tetra-based tank and preferred over the similar looking black widows!

simple but cool
I have 2 of these in my tank , i only got them because my mum liked them but after puting them in my tank i have really grown on them and I'm going to buy more because they a cool to watch swim around the tank in a group and so they feel safer in a bigger school.
