DetailsNeon Tetras are easily the most popular of all tropical fish with their amazing colour and peaceful schooling nature. They prefer soft slightly acidic water, and water temperatures about 20-24 C, but can tolerate other conditions as long as extremes are avoided. They look great at any time, but particularly when kept in planted aquaria in large schools. This aquarium bred strain of Neon Tetra is noted for its striking iridescent head colour.
Tetras are considered easy to keep in a community aquarium of at least 20L, with a pH of 5.07.0 and KH of 1.02.0. However, they will not tolerate dramatic changes to their environment. The Tetra can live 10 years or more with the proper conditions. They tend to be timid and, because of their small size, should not be kept with large or aggressive fish who may bully or simply eat them.
Fish that mix well in an aquarium are other types of tetras, and other community fish that live well in an ideal Tetra water condition. Mid-level feeders, they are best kept in schools of five to eight or more, for the "shoaling" effect when they move around the tank. They shoal naturally in the wild and are thus happier, more brightly coloured, and more active when kept as a shoal as opposed to singly.
Tetras are best kept in a densely planted tank with subdued light and an ideal temperature of 2024?C to resemble their native Amazon environment. Tetras are omnivores and will accept most flake foods, but should also have some small foods such as brine shrimp, daphnia, freeze-dried bloodworms, tubifex, and micro pellet food to supplement their diet.

- absolutely thrilled
I purchased 8 of these little fellas along with a few other products and when they arrived I was amazed by how well the welfare of the fish had been taken into consideration for delivery. The fish were a little smaller than I was expecting but they are doing well and have certainly brightened up the tank and provided endless hours of amusement already. Definitely going to purchase more.
- Stunning Fish!
Purchased 10 of these beauties as a start to my foray into the world of Nano tanks, and they are certainly exquisite.
Very small to start, mine coloured up beautifully and create a visual masterpiece in a 200 litre planted tank. Tank mates include various corydoras species, ember tetras, 2 white cloud minnows (relics from another tank and ancient of days) and 9 rosy barbs, who are far too boisterous for these little guys, so will be relocated in the near future...
Healthy, active and totally captivating, will definitely be purchasing more in the future.
- Stunning and hardier than neons
Love these little guys. Only lost 2 and they were so tiny on arrival I guess something ate them. I can't seem to keep neon tetras alive long term, but the Greens are healthy and active. So much so, I plan to order more.
